Driver Profile - Robert Pigeau

June 25th, 2019

Interested in getting to know the Big Freight Team?  Well we will be releasing a series of blog posts with interviews featuring our drivers.  Today, we are featuring Robert Pigeau.

Where do you live?

I was born and raised in London, Ontario where I lived until I was 18 years old.  After retiring from the military, I moved to Winnipeg where I currently live with my wife, Paula.

How long have you worked at Big Freight?

Over 22 years! I started on the flat decks and was doing that for a little while, I hauled glass for about 9 months, and then I moved into the specialized van division and have been doing that since.

Tell us about your favourite Big Freight memory.

It was really awesome to get my new truck with the military decals; I am honoured to drive it and it makes me feel proud.

I also really enjoy attending some of the Big Freight events that we put on.  I haven’t missed any of the golf tournaments yet since I started with Big Freight, and the Christmas parties are always fun.

What has been the biggest change you’ve seen through the years while working with Big Freight

There was a change in management when Big Freight merged with Daseke – and it was definitely a positive change.

What are some of your favourite pass-times outside of work?

I love camping in the beautiful Westbourne, Manitoba with my family.  We go to Ofty’s Riverside Campground.  There is a group of military guys that go there because the owner used to be in the military.

This summer, I plan to hit the road and explore Manitoba on my new motorcycle. It is a 1999 Yamaha VSTAR 1100.

I also enjoy golfing, fishing, and hunting.

What is your favourite song to jam out to?

Other than always singing She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy for Big Freight’s karaoke Christmas party, I really enjoy listening to We Will Rock You by Queen – it’s a classic.

What is your favourite place to eat on the road?

My favourite meal to order is the Boston Pizza spaghetti with meatballs and meat sauce.

I haven’t made it for a while, but I really like my homemade seafood chowder.  It takes time to make, but it is well worth it.

Tell us about a personal achievement you are most proud of.

Being the 2018 recipient of the MTA Inland Custom Trucks/Kenworth Truck Company Industry Excellence Award. I was also awarded the Manitoba Driver of the Year for 2019. Both were presented at the Manitoba Trucking Association PTDC awards dinner.  It has been a good year here with Big Freight and one that I will say I am proud of.

What do you like most about working for Big Freight?

“Big Freight sees you as a person, not just a number; it’s like being a part of a family rather than a company."
